RIP Molly

4th January 2016

Eeyore - with his Christmas hat :-)
First full day in the library since Christmas. Decided to take down the Christmas trees and decorations this afternoon - while it was quiet. Today's photo is of Eeyore - who has lived on my desk for at least five years - since being left in the library by (I guess) a child.
He's been sitting there on the printer in the hope that his owner would reclaim him one day - but I think he's got used to being with me. He has been admired by many children - and possibly even more adults - but no-one has claimed him in all this time.
He had to relinquish his Christmas party hat, which he's been wearing since the Coffee Tots Christmas Party - so he's looking even more depressed now.

It was a dark and wet day and although quite a few regulars came in and I had two new people sign up - not many were cheerful. There also seemed to be a problem with the buses  as several folk came in out of the rain to peer at the bus stop just outside the library though the rain-streaked windows.

I was very sad to learn about the death of one of my customers - Molly the collie.
She always came in with her owner Mrs Butler, and wandered round the library to see what people were up to. She'd stand next to someone interesting and if they ignored her she'd just lean on them.

Molly the Collie
Mrs B said that she'd been out for a walk over Christmas and when she came back she couldn't walk. She took her to an emergency vet on Boxing Day - who kept her in the surgery for a couple of days. Seems she has torn an artery and they couldn't stop the bleeding. There was nothing they could do for her except put her to sleep - to save her from suffering. Mrs B had me in tears when she described going in to see her before they let her go. Molly struggled up to go over to her when she went in the surgery. It must have been so upsetting. She said even the vet was in tears. It must be a horrible part of the job. Molly has been Mrs B's companion for 7 years. I remember when she first had her - she's been coming to the library since she was a puppy..

So today's Blast from the Past photo is from April 2014, when Molly made one of her visits. RIP Molly :-(
